Sectional vs. Sofa & Loveseat

How do you choose the right type of couch for your space?

In this post we are going to be asking: Which type of couch do you want? Which type of couch will work best for you? A sectional? Or a sofa & loveseat combo?

In order to determine which couch you should get, we have to start with a few questions.

First, what feeling are you hoping to capture in your space? Do you want a light and airy space? Cozy? Minimal? Stately? Masculine? Determining the feeling you want should help choose what type of couch you should go with. A modular low-profile couch like the Savesto sectional would be great for keeping your space feeling light and airy. For a cozy feel, you want to go with a couch that has lots of seating options and deep cushions such as the Elle sectional or the Cresson cuddler sectional. The Natalia two piece is low profile and boasts clean lines which is preferred for a minimal space. Our Breaux sofa set also goes well with the minimal feel. For a stately, dignified feel you can go with heavier and fancier furniture that commands attention such as the Aubrey sectionalHutton sofa, or the Chaviano sofa. Lastly, for a masculine feel you would want your couch to be heavier, darker and more firm. Sofa and loveseats go better towards a masculine feel because of their stationary look. The Jude reclining sofaBristan sofa and the Deryn sofa are perfect examples of masculine sofa and loveseat sets.

The second question we want to ask when choosing a couch is how much space do you really have? If you have a large space this question won't really help narrow down the type of couch you should choose. However if you have a smaller space it's the most important question for you to consider. With a smaller area you can pretty much rule out a huge sectional. The chances that it will fit are small and if it does fit, it would take up so much room that it will make your space look even smaller. With the space restrictions you should be looking at sofa and loveseat sets, reversible sectionals or even possibly two loveseats. With these options you have more wiggle room to move your furniture around as you wish. You'll also have more options when it comes to decorating and accessorizing your space.

Lastly, we want to ask what your intended usage is with your new couch? This is important because you don't want to buy a couch that won't serve its purpose. For a big family that likes to watch movies together, sectionals are the best option because you will be able to fit everyone all at once. If you're looking for a formal set, sofa and loveseats would be best because of the low-maintenance and more personalized styles offered. If you like to binge Netflix while sprawling out on a couch, a sectional would be best.

Hopefully by now you have enough information to make your decision on couch type or at the very least, been pushed in a certain direction. Always remember that it is perfectly fine to take your time and do your research before you make a final decision on your couch.

You've finally found the perfect couch ...now what? Designing a living room involves more then just getting a couch. Usually when designing a room you design around the main object, in this case it would be your couch. Items to consider when designing a living room would be the obvious ones like a coffee table , end tables , a  rug , and throw pillows . Other pieces would include entertainment centers , sofa tables , book shelves , or even a server/bar area .  Determining your needs is key for designing the perfect room and your needs will help you pick out the bigger pieces. If you like to entertain, including a bar area or even a large coffee table for game nights would be essential. If you like family time and enjoy movies, having a larger entertainment center for all of your electronics and accessories would be important. Again, designing is all about your needs. For a smaller space, you don't want to overpower the couch so a simple rug, coffee ta...
